Edie’s Story – A Cedarburg Senior Session

Come As You Are Series

She almost didn’t book it.

Her daughter was second-semester senior, and she told me honestly, she’s not always great at capturing milestones. The moments would come and go, and she’d always find herself living them rather than pausing to hold them still. But there was something about this one that felt different. Edie was already becoming whoever she was going to be next. And that deserved to be documented.

“She’s a genuine, attentive listener who makes others feel truly heard.” That’s how she described her daughter when I asked. No pause. No searching for words. Just a mom who knows exactly who she raised.

The most meaningful photos aren’t always the ones taken at the “perfect” moment. They’re the ones taken when someone finally says: I see you. Exactly as you are, right now. Edie didn’t need a curated version of herself. She needed someone to witness the empathetic, funny, rock-climbing, word-puzzle-before-bed version of herself, right at the edge of everything that comes next.

She reached out because she didn’t want to miss it. Edie had spent her senior year saying yes to everything, watching the sunrise with her whole class, senior tennis night with flowers and a poster, rock climbing competitions across the country. Her mom had been watching all of it. And she wanted proof, not just in her memory, but somewhere she could hold.

“She makes people feel truly heard,” and her mom said it with the quiet certainty of someone who’s watched her daughter do it her whole life.

We spent an afternoon at a spot in Mequon, and the whole thing felt exactly the way Edie had hoped. Joyful. Unhurried. Completely her. She got to pick the spots, catch sneak peeks on the back of the camera, and just breathe for a couple of hours. No rushing. No posing through something forced. Just a girl being seen in a place she loved, on a day that mattered.

“Sign up for everything, that’s how you meet the people who matter most.”

“Remember to enjoy the journey.”

One day, she’ll hold one of these photos and know exactly who she was at seventeen.
