SUMMER IS HERE! Thank goodness, it feels like we waited forever for this summer to arrive! And with that, its family session season! My family sessions take place typically in Ozaukee and Washington Counties, although I’m always up to travel, and are always at sunset or right before it for that pretty light (unless you’re a sunrise family)! This means if you have littles, you may want to plan for a spring for fall session when sunset is a hair earlier. The latest sessions will be in June and start to become earlier as summer carries on. I allow about 60 mins for a standard family, and a little longer for a film add on or an extended family.
Styling Your Family
Styling for family sessions is so important and can really help showcase your families’ personality as well as keep the focus on you all. I LOVE helping to style your family, and have an amazing client closet for mamas and lots of options for where to purchase for the rest of the fam. If you’d prefer I do it all, I can send you links for everything also! I tell families to stick to one pattern, and plan everyone else’s outfits around that. Coordinating neutral colors come across best in camera, and stay away from bright blues, neon colors, bold patterns (like plaid and large florals) and say YES to textures, accessories, and cute shoes. Shoes are often the forgotten piece to your session, and gym shoes and non-matching shoes will throw off your whole look!
Picking the Perfect Location
Locations, man they can make or break a session! That’s why you have me, Ozaukee county location expert! I know all of the cutest places depending on the look we’re going for. From secluded creeks, to well known historical areas (like Covered Bridge and Lime Kiln) we’ll choose what works best for our session and your family! Make sure you tell me if you’re game to hike to get the perfect sunset, or you want to stay somewhere close to the parking lot! When I look for locations I strive to find somewhere where the sun peeks through and you can see the beautiful skies!
Prompting for Storytelling Images
During my sessions I love PROMPTING, and if I’ve photographed you before, you may know what I’m talking about! I love getting families interacting naturally, giggling and cuddling! I know what you’re thinking- my kids aren’t cuddly, won’t sit, don’t love their picture taken, ect. Thats ok! Kids will be kids, and capturing them as they are is what I do best! If thats running, spinning or throwing rocks in the river, thats what we’ll do! I have tons of tricks up my sleeves to make for fun candid and interaction shots. Of course I always aim to get a few images of everyone looking, but my style really leans more toward candid, storytelling imagery.
After our session you’ll get a sneak peek within 48 hours on social media (Facebook & Instagram) if that’s something you’re comfortable with, and then a proofing gallery within 7-10 days.
