All About Your Newborn Session

tips

Eeek! Your little one will be here any day, and you’re so excited to capture your little one’s first photos! I know getting ready for your session (and possibly even your first outing!) can feel daunting, but I’m here to help you every step of the way! After booking, your due date holds a spot in my calendar. Once your little arrives, reach out (within the first 72 hours please!) and we’ll get your official session all set up, and I love to capture those first days, so your session will typically be before your little is two weeks old.

Family Photos

If your session includes family images, planning what to wear is first! I tell families to stay simple! No patterns, logos, or flashy jewelry, we want the focus to be on your little one! Try to coordinate but not match, and keep siblings in comfortable clothing too! The nice thing about newborn family images, is they’re all pretty much from the waist up, so if you wanna rock slippers, you totally can! Think neutrals, browns/creams/grays, and textures, as those come across best in camera!

Your Baby

Most of the images we aim to capture while your little one is in a deep sleep! To make this happen, I’ll have you keep your little one up for a bit before our session (think bath time or tummy time!) and then do a nice full feeding before you come to the studio. Dress your baby in a sleeper, or something easy to take off so that I can start the session without waking your little one!

During The Session

Your baby will tell us how the session will go, and when to take breaks! If your little one arrives in a deep sleep, I’ll start with their portraits first and then move to family images after (unless there are siblings, then we’ll do family first always!). Your little will most likely need a few breaks to eat and snuggle back to sleep after the bigger transitions, and this is totally normal! We’ll do both wrapped images in fun baskets and props, and naked images on background colors I chose based on your questionnaire.

After Your Session

After your session, I’ll post a sneak peek on Facebook and Instagram (with your approval of course) and you’ll be able to share that with your family and friends while you wait for your final images! A proof gallery will be sent over within 10 days, and then you’ll choose your final images. It’ll take about another 10 days for me to finalize your edits, and then you’ll have your newborn gallery! You’ll be able to order wall art or prints directly from your gallery, and share it with family so they can do the same!

I can’t wait to photograph your new addition!!
